WHAT IS GRIDIRON

Gridiron is the full-contact version of American Football, combining speed, strategy, and physicality in one of the most dynamic team sports in the world. From explosive plays to tactical battles on every down, it delivers a complete football experience at every level of the game.

With specialised offensive and defensive units, gridiron rewards discipline, teamwork, and individual skill whether you’re delivering big hits, making clutch catches, or leading drives down the field.

It’s a sport built for all body types and skill sets, with a position for everyone from speed and agility to strength and power.

Played across Australia and around the world, gridiron continues to grow locally through competitions like GNSW, providing clear pathways from grassroots to representative football.

It’s challenging to master, incredibly rewarding to play, and unmatched in intensity.

OFFENCE

Offence in gridiron is built on precision, execution, and teamwork. The objective is to move the ball down the field by controlling the tempo, winning at the line of scrimmage, and creating opportunities through both the run and the pass. The offensive line lays the foundation, protecting the quarterback and opening lanes in the run game, while the quarterback leads the unit, reading the defence and making quick, decisive plays.

Across the field, receivers and running backs work to create separation, find space, and turn plays into positive yardage. Timing, route running, and ball security are critical, with every player executing their role to keep drives alive and build momentum.

Strong offence is about more than just scoring points it’s about controlling the game, sustaining drives, and putting pressure on the defence. Through discipline, communication, and consistent execution, great offences create opportunities, finish in the endzone, and dictate the flow of the game.

DEFENCE

Defence in gridiron is built on physicality, discipline, and teamwork. The objective is to stop the offence by controlling the line of scrimmage, shutting down the run, and applying pressure on the quarterback. Defensive linemen set the tone up front, battling for dominance in the trenches, while linebackers read the play, fill gaps, and attack the ball with speed and intent.

In the secondary, defensive backs are responsible for locking down receivers, reading the quarterback, and creating turnovers through tight coverage and interceptions. Every player has a defined role, and success comes from trust, communication, and executing assignments on every play.

Strong defence is about more than just stopping plays it’s about forcing mistakes, creating momentum shifts, and giving the offence the best possible field position.
